STORMSURE FAQs

Commonly Asked Consumer Questions

To what materials will Stormsure Flexible Repair Adhesive stick?

Stormsure will stick to most materials. To get the best results the surface needs to be clean and rough. Fabrics already have a rough texture but wood, metal and smooth surfaces should be sandpapered gently to give the glue a good “key”. Stormsure works well on cotton, canvas, ripstop fabrics, most coated fabrics, leather, PVC, Polyurethane, rubber, latex, Nylon, neoprene, tri-laminates, fibre glass, wood, metal and much more It will not adhere well with “low surface energy” plastics such as polythene, polypropylene and PTFE.

How do I make a patch-less repair?

If you have a rip or hole in fabric material you can make a repair with no patch. Cover the visible surface of the damage with sticky tape. Apply Stormsure on the other side, covering the damage and overlapping onto the material. Leave flat and Stormsure will settle to a uniform film over the damaged area. Leave to cure overnight, then remove the sticky tape. The new glued surface where the tape was placed should be flush with the surface of the fabric leaving a smooth flat finish. This is ideal for cuts and rips in water proof clothing.

How can I speed up the cure time?

You can reduce the cure time from 10-12 hours to under 2 hours by mixing the adhesive with StormCure Accelerator. This liquid has a chemical accelerator in it which speeds up the chemical reaction significantly. You can dilute Stormsure with the accelerator to make it a thin liquid. The dilute adhesive liquid can be used like paint to make a very thin water proof film, which can dry in as little as ten minutes.

What type of things has Stormsure successfully repaired before?

Stormsure has been used to repair a wide range of items: Wellington Boots with holes and leaky folds in the rubber. Rips in tent fabric and groundsheets. Marquees with leaking stitched seams Tarpaulins. Truck and trailer curtains. Awnings. Wetsuits and Drysuits for Divers, Surfers and Watersportsmen. Waterproof Clothing for everyone. It is great for rips and also for sealing leaky seams and stitching. Trainers, Waders, Boots and Shoes of all types of material. Woodwork. Fibreglass. Fixing rips and worn folds in Cabriolet Soft top roof material. Horse blankets and Turn out rugs. Rubber seals on car and boat doors. Inflatable boats, RIBS and inflatable toys. Boat covers. Rubber matting. Table cloths.

Can Stormsure fill gaps?

Yes! Stormsure is 70% solids, whiich is much more than many other adhesives. As it cures it does shrink, but only by about 30%, so it has very good gap filling properties.

Will Stormsure work in extreme temperatures?

Stormsure will work in both high and low temperatures. However in cold water it becomes a little more stiff, and when hot it becomes more flexible. It does not usually become brittle at low temperatures. It has been tested down to -50ºC in arctic Norway.
